Please join us for our August Meeting.  This will be a lunch meeting at Dilworth Neighborhood Grille on Thursday, August 22, 2019 with registration/socialization beginning at 11:30 am.

 

The details for the meeting are as follows:

 

Topic: Basics of Freight and Passenger Rail

 

A basic overview of the freight rail and passenger rail industries from the perspective of a civil engineer, including a summary of planning/engineering basics, government oversight, and closing with a summary of STV’s work here in Charlotte.

 

Presenter:  Stu Matthis, P.E./Fellow-ASCE, Vice President at STV in Charlotte

 

Stu is a graduate of West Virginia University (BSCE) and Virginia Tech (MSCE). He joined Ralph Whitehead Associates (RWA) in 1982, which became STV in 2006. He has been with the company in Charlotte for 37 years. Stu has worked on many of the major transportation projects (highway and rail) in the Carolinas and also in the southeast. He is a registered engineer in 7 states and member of ASCE and numerous other societies. He was a lecturer at UNCC for 22 years and currently serves as STV’s National Director of Business Development for Transportation-Infrastructure.
